How to Get a Reseller License in Colorado
To sell goods in Colorado, resellers must obtain a Colorado Sales Tax License (also known as a retailer's license) through the state's online portal at MyBizColorado or by submitting Form CR 0100. The registration fee is $16 with a $50 refundable deposit that is returned after you collect and remit $50 in state sales tax. Out-of-state sellers with no physical presence can register for a Retailer's Use Tax License at no cost.
Processing is fast—if you apply online, you typically receive your sales tax license number within 24 hours. All licenses expire on December 31 of odd-numbered years and must be renewed.
Once registered, your sales tax license number also serves as your resale certificate number, allowing you to make tax-exempt purchases for resale by presenting Form DR 0563 to suppliers. A critical detail for Colorado resellers is that the state license only covers state and state-administered taxes—it does not apply to home-rule cities like Denver, Colorado Springs, and Aurora, which have their own separate licensing requirements.
