How to Get a Reseller License in Georgia
To sell goods in Georgia, resellers must obtain a Sales and Use Tax Number by registering through the Georgia Tax Center (GTC). Registration is free and can be completed entirely online. After submitting your application, you should receive your tax account number within 15 minutes by email. The permit does not expire and remains valid as long as your business operates without changes in ownership or structure.
You will need:
- Federal Employer Identification Number (EIN)
- Business entity type
- Physical and mailing addresses
- Social Security numbers for all corporate officers
Once registered, you will receive a Georgia Tax ID number which allows you to issue Form ST-5 (Resale Certificate) to suppliers when purchasing inventory tax-free for resale. Georgia's state sales tax rate is 4%, with additional local taxes that can bring the combined rate up to 8% or more depending on the county. You must file returns and remit collected sales tax according to your assigned filing frequency.
