How to Get a Reseller License in Mississippi
To sell goods in Mississippi, you must obtain a Sales Tax Permit (also called a Seller's Certificate) from the Mississippi Department of Revenue. Registration is free and completed online through the Taxpayer Access Point (TAP) portal. Processing takes approximately 2 weeks.
You will need:
- Federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) or SSN
- Business entity information
- IRS EIN Confirmation Letter (CP 575)
Unlike most states, Mississippi does not use formal resale certificates. Instead, you provide vendors with your Mississippi Sales Tax Permit Number to claim resale exemptions. Out-of-state businesses without a permanent place of business may need to post a Sales Tax Bond (minimum $100). Mississippi's state sales tax rate is 7%, with Jackson adding 1% and Tupelo adding 0.25%. Your permit does not expire and requires no renewal.
