How to Get a Reseller License in South Carolina

To sell goods in South Carolina, resellers must obtain a Retail License from the South Carolina Department of Revenue. Registration is completed online through MyDORWAY and costs $50 per location. You will need your business name and address, EIN, and owner/officer information. A separate license is required for each physical business location.

Your license does not expire as long as your business continues at the same location—but you must surrender it if there are no sales for 24 consecutive months. To make tax-exempt purchases for resale, use Form ST-8A (Resale Certificate). South Carolina's state rate is 6%, with local option taxes bringing combined rates up to 9%. Retail licenses are not transferable; new owners must apply for a new license.
